DESCRIPTION:
Seeing these cactus growing in there
natural environment still fascinates me.
In Mexico both the fleshy green stems,
and the red flowers (tunas) are eaten.
The contrast of the two colours, and
the way the light plays on the stems

makes it an irresistible subject for me.

DESCRIPTION:
In November 2008 I moved back to the UK after
a 26 year journey! The winters in the areas
of Mexico and Spain where I had lived are like
warm English summers. In January 2009 that all
changed, at one point the whole of the UK was
covered in a blanket of thick snow, a rare event
even by UK records! It clearly had an effect on me,
and the results were this piece, and its partner
“Wintry Showers (landscape). I do remember thick
fluffy snowflakes, like the ones in my paintings,
falling out of the English sky’s in my childhood
winter days.
