DESCRIPTION: The title of this piece comes from the name of the street depicted in the painting,”Calle San Fernando” This Spanish Colonial town “Guanajuato” is situated on the Eastern edge of the Sierra Madre mountains, in very nearly the geographical center of Mexico. This perfectly preserved Spanish Colonial town is home to some wonderful examples of 17th Century European architecture. This part of Mexico is rich in mineral deposits, and in the 17th century the Spanish were actively mining silver here, and some of the profit went into building the town. Every year there is a huge festival for the arts in Guanajuato, and I went to the town in 2004 to live, work, and participate in the festival.
