DESCRIPTION:
In late 2003 I spent 6 weeks living and painting in Guanajuato City, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Situated on the Eastern edge of the Sierra Madre mountains, this perfectly preserved Spanish Colonial town is home to some wonderful examples of 17th Century European architecture. I was struck immediately by the contrast between the opulent nature of these buildings, and the seemingly normal and everyday lifestyle of the inhabitants. The details etched into the layers of paint on the original door are a work of art in themselves
