DESCRIPTION: I painted this piece while I lived in the town of Guanajuato, Mexico. The Spanish built the town in the 1700s, and it sits on what was some of the worlds largest silver deposits. The silver eventually ran out, and so did the Spanish, leaving everything they had built for the local Mexicans. Its a treasure trove of 17th century architecture, little streets winding their way up steep hillsides, with exquisite doorways at every turn. Perros Muertos is the name of this street, it translates to dead dogs, I only encountered live dogs however. The Chihuahua pictured on the steps was called Centavido, he didn’t like me being there in his territory and did his best to let me know this whenever he could. I decided to immortalize him for his troubles, and as a tribute to all the Perros Muertos
