THE DOORS OF GUANAJUATO
In late 2003 I spent 6 weeks living and painting in Guanajuato City, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Situated on the Eastern edge of the Sierra Madre mountains, this perfectly preserved Spanish Colonial town is home to some wonderful examples of 17th Century European architecture. I was struck immediately by the contrast between the opulent nature of these buildings, and the seemingly normal and everyday lifestyle of the inhabitants.

Here then is a small cross section of Guanajuatos many doorways, the ones that I was compelled to paint, realizing that I could, if I chose to, spend a lifetime rendering these historical gems.
